Our commitment to Product Stewardship

Bayer CropScience, as an industry leader, is fully committed to Product Stewardship as an integral part of its activities, in line with the principles of Sustainable Development and Responsible Care. Bayer CropScience endorses the international FAO Code of Conduct on the distribution and use of pesticides and has taken it as the basis of its Product Stewardship principles.

Product Stewardship is the responsible and ethical management of a crop protection product throughout its life cycle. Bayer CropScience’s stewardship program addresses all major aspects of responsible product management. This includes research and initial development of a new active ingredient, its registration and production, packaging, labelling, distribution, handling, application, storage and transport, including empty product containers and ultimately safe use of any waste.

Effective product stewardship has two main objectives: to minimize the potential risk to human health and the environment and to maximize the benefits derived from product use. Bayer CropScience’s Product stewardship activities, therefore, include extensive investment in human and environmental safety testing of its products, the development of improved packaging design to prevent unnecessary contact between product and applicators as well as smarter application techniques and the provision of support and/or training services to promote responsible product use.

To achieve this goal Bayer CropScience operates its business in accordance with recognized standards, not only complying with existing legislation, but going beyond basic requirements.

Bayer CropScience is committed to bring product stewardship to the attention of all employees concerned within the company or its affiliates. It is the responsibility of those employees to promote and safeguard the correct use of our products. Individual responsibility for specific aspects of product stewardship is clearly recognized and supervised by management.

Bayer CropScience is convinced that stewardship programs pay back to all stakeholders: farmers and their families improve their livelihoods while maintaining good health, increasing crop yields and simultaneously preserving environmental resources to produce year-round safe and affordable food for consumers around the world.
